Dr. Kamen is the Senior Director of Radiation Safety and the Chief Radiation and Laser Safety Officer for the Mount Sinai Health System. He is also professor of Radiology at Mount Sinai. He was elected as the President of the Greater New York Chapter of Health Physics (GNYCHP) in 2004 and as the President of the GNYCHP Executive Council for 2010-2011.

Dr. Kamen completed his graduate work in the Nuclear Engineering program of Columbia University where he was elected as the President of the University Chapter of American Nuclear Society. He also spent several years at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) working on BNCT and PGNA. He is a licensed Medical Physicist in Medical Health Physics and Medical Nuclear Physics. He is board certified by the American Board of Health Physics (ABHP) as well as the Board of Laser Safety (BLS).

Dr. Kamen has more than 30 years of experience in the field of Health Physics, at New York University Medical Center, Columbia University Medical Center, and Mount Sinai Medical Center. He has had faculty appointments with Manhattan College, New York University, and presently is Professor of Radiology at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Dr. Kamen received Health Physics Society (HPS) Fellow Award in 2017 and HPS Homeland Security Distinguished Service Award in 2023.
